At lofty heights, on roofs and in other situations where there is a risk of falling, breaking through or sinking, reliable fall protection is essential. Falls of any kind can lead to serious injuries, which can be prevented by taking appropriate safety precautions. Various systems are suitable for protecting people in areas where there is a risk of falling. One of these solutions for anchorage devices for individual personal protection are rail systems. In combination with personal fall protection equipment (PPE), these systems provide permanent protection when walking on the entire roof.
Systems with rails are primarily suitable for horizontal use and are usually installed permanently along the edge of the fall. A horizontal rail system consists of rails and matching rail runners. Rail bends ensure that curves and any changes in direction are possible without the user having to unhook themselves from the system. The excellent traversability of this anchorage device means that work on the roof can be carried out without interruption and in a reliably safe manner.
An anchorage device with a fixed guide is only complete in conjunction with appropriate PPE. The full body harness is connected to the so-called rail slider via the lanyard. The rollers of the rail runners glide smoothly over the rails, making such a rail system ideal for overhead installation. This means that the user does not have to constantly adjust their fall protection measures during work and can work flexibly, permanently secured and, above all, safely on the roof. The safety system simply moves with them.
Although this form of fall protection works in a similar way to a lifeline system, there are still differences. As the name suggests, a lifeline system has a tensioned stainless steel cable instead of rails. As lifeline systems are attached to several anchor points, there is always a certain amount of slack in the rope and, despite the use of rope sliders, it is not as easy to pass over intermediate points in the rope system as it is with rail systems. However, both safety systems are good solutions for the individual and permanent protection of persons against falling when in use.
The LUX-top® FSA 2010-H lifeline system with fixed guide is ideal for securing personal fall protection equipment for up to 4 people at the same time. The weather-resistant construction made of high-strength aluminum has a cross-section of 31×31 mm. The extensive selection of components and accessories, such as rail holders, rail bends and rail runners, also make the rail safety system LUX-top® FSA 2010-H the first choice for more complex projects. It is suitable for installation on flat roofs, on pitched roofs on façades and also inside buildings. Securely connected to the substrate, the system provides reliable support for the PPE of industrial climbers, for example.
The aluminum rail safety system is tested and certified according to DIN EN 795 type D. In addition, the LUX-top® FSA 2010-H has a general building authority approval (abZ) and general type approval (aBG) with the number Z-14.9-808.

Rail systems are ideal as fall protection for facades and overhead applications, but are also used on roof surfaces and in industry and commerce. They can be mounted on the floor, on the ceiling or on a wall. The rail systems can be attached to concrete, steel or wood, for example, as a safe anchorage device and ensure that several people are secured at the same time.
As with all types of fall protection, regular maintenance and documentation is mandatory. An inspection should be carried out and documented by trained specialist personnel. An impairment of the load-bearing capacity of individual components is often not noticeable, but can lead to serious injuries in the event of a fall. For this reason, it is important to take the maintenance of fall protection systems seriously.
